    Shivani Persad is a full-time model and activist who was born in Trinidad and grew up in Mississauga, Canada. In 2012 she completed her honours degree in Political Science and French at McMaster University. Her interests include politics, intersectional feminism and worker's rights. As a model, she has worked for the last ten years for clients such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Cole Haan, Nordstrom, Target, Laura Mercier, Becca Cosmetics, Elle India, Harper's Bazaar and many more. Previously she produced a podcast called More Than Model Radio, which explores the lives that models lead outside of the fashion industry. 

     

    In 2019 she launched @liveshivmedia, a social justice-driven storytelling platform, to tell the stories of hyper-marginalized groups. Currently, she hosts "Well Said" a podcast by Indigo Books and Music Inc. where she's interviewed authors such as Jay Shetty, Rupi Kaur, Rebecca Carroll and many more. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Shivani decided to pursue freelance journalism. To date, she has been published in Cosmopolitan, Refinery 29, Anti-Racism Daily, Teen Vogue and more. She enjoys writing on the intersection between politics and culture. 

     

    Some of her proudest work includes: collaborating with other Caribbean groups to create a guide for combatting anti-blackness in Indo-Caribbean communities and all of the labour activism work she has done with the Model Alliance.
