Famously known as the first Indian supermodel, Ujjwala was a 17-year-old student when she won "Femina Look of the Year" at the Femina Miss India 1996 contest. Standing at five-feet-10-inches, she grew up in Dahisar, a middle-class suburb in Mumbai. Soon after, she was also among the top fifteen in the 1996 Elite Model Look contest in Nice.
In a career spanning almost 25 years, Ujjwala walked the runway for many designers such as, Yves Saint-Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Hugo Boss, Diane von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Givenchy, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, and Emilio Pucci, and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. And shot ad campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, GAP and H&M and appeared in the world’s top fashion magazines from Vogue to Harper's Bazaar to Cosmopolitan.
Most recently, Ujjwala can be seen on MTV India’s hit show, “Supermodel of the Year.” As a mentor on the reality tv show, Ujjwala provides the young aspiring models with positive advice and mentorship. Ujjwala says that her biggest dream is to, “be able to educate little girls and help them know that they can accomplish anything in life.”
