Photographer and Director, Jean Toir, was born in Kazakhstan. He fell in love with fashion photography after encountering the work of Tim Walker, which deeply inspired him with its surrealistic themes and whimsical elements. At the age of 24, Jean Toir left his remote hometown, embarking on a journey to establish a professional career and relocated to the United States.
Jean Toir attributes the dream-like quality of his photographs to his passion for experimental visual art. He achieves this by skillfully juxtaposing the realms of the natural and the artificial, the real and the surreal, employing a multidisciplinary artistic approach. His work stands out for its fusion of strong shapes, thoughtful color choices, bold compositional arrangements, and the way it presents fashion as a form of sculptural adornment.
Jean Toir's editorial work has been featured in Numero, Dazed, Harper's Bazaar, Fucking Young, Cap74024, Highsnobiety, Office, Metal Magazine, and Vogue.com. Notably, his lens has captured advertising campaigns for prominent clients such as Alexander Wang, Chris Habana, Walter Van Beirendonck, and Christian Cowan.
His creative endeavors have extended beyond the pages, with his works showcased at Chashama Gala in Times Square, SCOPE at Art Basel and shortlisted for Berlin Fashion Film Festival.
